We think our larger female dog might be pregnant by our tiny male dog. We were told the small dag was fixed before we got him, but found out too late that he had not been. She is lactating and has become some what cranky. Since the daddy is a small breed, we do not expect her to get very big. Could this be a pseudo pregnancy? l was pregnant for about 3 months and misscarried. Right after l came home from the hospital is when she started lactating. Yes l know l should have had her fixed so please do not posttelling me something l all ready know. l got both my dogs from people who did not want them or did not have time to care for them. We know for a fact that she could not haven been gotten by any neighboring dogs due to the fact she is never outside without a leash. We would have had her fixed by now but I am diabetic and in and out of the hospital and somehow manage to miss the chances to get her fixed.
Since we got him from family, we thought they were telling the truth and did not think they would lie about something like that. And since he was so fuzzy you could not really tell without digging.

How can you tell the difference between an actual pregnancy and a pseudo pregnancy in a dog

So when you do not like the you get from another question, you just block people, change your name and ask it again?!
Interesting.

The surest way to tell is if she has puppies in 61 days, no just kidding. A vet can do an x-ray and see if there are any pups in there. Other wise there really is not a way to tell unless she starts showing, especially if the male was small, it is gonna be rather difficult with out an x-ray. They cost around 300 bucks though. And I would not criticize you about getting them fixed since you thought the male was neutered. And anyone else who does is just being rude for no reason.

I know what you can do in the future.. When someone tells you that the male is neutered.. You can turn him around, and check for testicles.. If they are there, then he is NOT neutered, if they are missing and he has a flappy or tiny little sack, then he IS neutered.. This way you do not have to blame someone else.. You will know how to check .. Do not over look the balls, it will screw you every time.

If it is a real pregnancy there will be puppies born. If a pseudo-pregnancy, no puppies.

Emm, now really the only way to tell is Ultrasound. And do not be ashamed having little puppies around the house could be great. But it could be fake, or not take her to your local vet, and some Shelters do the scans for free! Good luck and if you do end up with puppies, they will be cute!

If possible have her ultrasounded, that will let you know for sure, if it has been at least 4 weeks.
